Greta Stroebel and Society Road
Society Road is the debut CD by 18-year-old New England singer-songwriter Greta Stroebel.
A singer and performer since age 5, Greta received her first guitar as a Christmas present at age 12. While still learning to play, she wrote her first song, Scarlet, the bittersweet story of a middle-aged maid looking back on her past with regret, and ahead to her future with hope and fear. With its haunting melody and insightful lyrics, the song revealed a natural talent, and the process of writing it sparked a new life's passion in Greta.
Society Road represents six of Greta's personal favorites from among the many songs she penned in her first few years as a songwriter. The most recent track on the record is Window, written in late 2014, while the oldest is This Christmas Night, written when Greta was 13.
She is currently working on a full-length album of new songs, which is being produced by Eric Lichter at Dirt Floor Studios in Haddam.
A fan of virtually all musical genres and styles, Greta counts Paul Simon as her greatest songwriting influence, and wrote the first track on Society Road - Dreamer in a Tower - as a tribute to Mr. Simon. Her evocative voice and imagery-rich writing style have been compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan and Jewel.
For the past several years Greta has been performing regularly at coffee houses, clubs, benefit concerts and a wide variety of venues and events. Society Road was recorded at The Music Bureau in Salem, Connecticut, and produced by Zac Koval.
